Treasure Hunting

A few weeks ago, we went home to the great state of Mississippi where I was hoping to learn some upholstery skills, but went treasure hunting instead.

Daddy has an old dairy barn where he is desperately trying to clean out to make a woodworking shop.

Middle showed up and, like me, needed some help with some chairs.

Can you count the chairs in this picture?

As we waited, we started picking through as few things.

and found a pair of hobnob lamps

a cool typewriter that I will display only in my house. Pinkie promise, mother!

Old sewing supplies

some cool doors and an octagon mirror ...

a old vanity that goes along with the octagon mirror.

My aunt's business correspondence books ... (love the font!)

Some cherished letters from World War I

and a souvenir from France sent to a wife in waiting from a soldier from afar.

as well as an old basket ...

A beautiful old chandy ...

 some dolls in an old trunk ...

and an old, dented pair of glasses that Middle had to model.

All in all, Middle got her chairs finished, we both got some loot, and Daddy did get a little of his shop cleaned out.

I think this is a win/win situation except for Ken who just cringed when he found out all that I was bringing home!

Thrifting Dishes ...

I I have a thing for pretty dishes.
 Dishes and underwear are my two favorite things to get! I love pretty things, what can I say?

Back in the summer, I was my husband's girlfriend for two days.

While he was in meetings, I was fast and furious in antique and thrift stores. I knew I did not have a whole lot of time, but I was on a mission.

For this ...

I am absolutely in love with this Blue Heaven pattern from the 1960's

Although, I don't have plans for the patterned dishes, I do have plans for those clear dishes!

Can't wait to share!

What are your favorite things?

Exploring

I have a strong inner junk goddess.

Like, I will almost run off the road looking to see some curbside treasures kind of junk goddess.

There is nothing like running into some old junk that is going to be thrown away and imagining what I would do with it.

Unfortunately, my junk habit it not supported. However, my exploring habit it.

I love explore old building, barns, and homesteads.

I love it so much that when I was in college, I joined a semi-secret club that would explore old buildings at night. I can assure you that all we did was explore, and there was no old junk that fell out of the windows. We clearly waited until they put all that old junk by the curb and then had a field day with it.
Pinky promise.

~~~~~~
On our way out of Mississippi last weekend, we decided to take a ramble down to Ken's Pawpaw's farm where the old home is.
I had to trade my Yellow Boxes for a size 13 boot due to being an ophidiophobian
The old house is falling apart, but holds many, many years of memories.
I am all about wanting to explore every inch and view all the details.
The layers of wallpaper were beautiful, and I tried to imagine the whole room covered.
However, my most favorite part of the home was the plank walls. I seriously could live the rest of my life with horizontal plank walls. They are so classic!
Such beauty!
Have a great week!
Pretty Ladies
I've got friends in high places ...
Where they have friends of a friends garage full of glassware.
And because my friend knows my love of old glassware, she grabbed a few things, hopped a plane, and flew back as fast as she could to share.
I got great friends, don't I?
So lets take a look at my booty, not that one, mind you.
She initially texted me about the beautiful pink plate.
In which I said, "Yes," instantly, but I was also coveting these beautiful bubble glasses.
I mean, why would some one want to give these away?
I can already imagine what I am going to do with them. It would involve flowers, of course.
I love the edges.
And when she finally asked if Lea Ann or I wanted the glasses, I swooped down on these because I know that Lea Ann is a quick one.
Love my booty - both of them!
Days of the Week Tea Towels
I am sure that many of you probably had the days of the week underwear. I always wanted some, but never got any. I will have to ask my mother why.
Recently, we remodeled our kitchen, and I wanted one of these.
This lead to wanting to get some pretty linen hand towels to use, when I remembered that my grandmother made these and stuck them in my hope chest many years ago.
She stenciled each one using the hand towels that use to come on the flour bags, I believe.
I am so glad that I remembered these! It reminds me of how much fun my grandmother had giving me things for my hope chest as well as brings her memories into our kitchen. She took so much time making these, and how funny that I enjoy doing most of these things, except for ironing. Ha!
I love the way they hang and bring brightness to our kitchen.
